School Immunizations are important

Dear Parents,

Keeping students healthy and safe is a shared responsibility. School immunizations help protect children from serious diseases such as measles, whooping cough, meningitis, and other preventable illnesses. Vaccines not only protect your child but also help safeguard classmates, staff, and vulnerable individuals in our school community who may not be able to receive certain vaccinations. By maintaining high immunization rates, we can reduce the spread of disease and keep students in school and learning.

South Dakota law requires students to meet state immunization requirements before attending school. For kindergarten students, the required childhood immunizations must be completed according to South Dakota Department of Health guidelines. In addition, students entering 6th grade must have:

  • One dose of

    Tdap

    (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis)

  • One dose of

    MCV4

    (Meningococcal ACYW) vaccine

If you have questions about your child's immunization status, please contact your healthcare provider or the school office. Working together, we can help ensure a healthy and successful school year for all students.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe and healthy!
