As part of our commitment to continuous school improvement, the Dell Rapids School Board is embarking on a strategic planning process to guide the future of our schools. This process begins with gathering valuable input from our stakeholders—you!

Strategic Plan Proposal – Dell Rapids School District

August 2024

Objectives:

This process is designed to move the Dell Rapids School District through the following steps:

Understand changes in the external environment

Assess internal strengths and weaknesses of the district

Develop goals and an “action plan” for the desired future of the district

Identify responsibilities to ensure the “action plan” is being implemented with fidelity

Sept/Oct  2024	School Board Presentation, if requested	Review of Strategic Planning Process Review use of survey and focus groups Explain Goal Setting and Action Plan
October 2024	DEC will develop electronic surveys to be administered to faculty, staff, parents, community, and students	The purpose of the survey would be to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, concerns, and threats for the Dell Rapids School District. Survey administered in Oct/Nov 2024 to faculty, staff, parents, community, and students.
October 2024	District will Collect Data in the areas identified.	Current fall enrollment Projected fall enrollment: 2025 & 2026 Financial (2 year’s data: 2023, 2024) General Fund Balance Capital Outlay Fund Balance
Oct/Nov 2024	Disseminate survey to a variety of educational audiences. Survey would provide input into current status of school district.  The survey will address academics, facilities, staffing, extra-curriculars and finance.	Suggested audiences include: Faculty/Staff Administration Parents/Community Students (9-12) Survey disseminated by the district through: Infinite Campus Links in Newspaper Links on school website
DEC/Jan 2024-2025	Conduct focus group meetings: Package results of electronic survey for dissemination to both focus groups Identify “Survey Themes” and share with focus group members	Suggested audiences include:(12-20 members) Administrators/Directors - all members Faculty/Staff - Representatives from Buildings/disciplines. Parents/Community - nominated by Board (Business owners, members of the rural and city community - Objective is to discuss suggested "SMART goals and identify action steps"
January  2025	DEC synthesizes data and constructs a draft of district goals and objectives using information gained from survey and focus group discussions.
January 2025	DEC and Administration will draft the district “action plan” based on survey responses and focus group feedback.
Jan/Feb 2025	School Board Meeting to review the prepared action plan. The board will review the draft and take input prior to action at their next board meeting.
February 2025	The District Action Plan is reviewed and edited, if necessary, by the Dell Rapids School Board. The board may adopt as presented or amend and adopt.
October 2025	Progress update – By the Administration to the School Board
May 2026	Progress update - By the Administration to the School Board
