7BOB Author/Title Match Game
Battle of the Books
This year the Dell Rapids Middle School Library, along with homeroom teachers, will be hosting our very first Battle of the Books Tournament! Battle of the Books is a reading program designed to encourage students to read and share their knowledge of the books in a group setting. The school librarians and the 7th grade homeroom teachers worked together to create a list of 24 books for the battle. These award winning books were chosen to engage readers of all reading levels and offer genres for every interest.
How does the student participate?
Battle of the Books challenges all 7th grade students to break into groups of 5/6/7 and work together to read 24 books for the March Madness themed tournament. The groups then divide up the books so that each team member will read at least 5-7 books from the list by March 15th. The groups agreed to work together to make sure that each team member is doing their part to complete their individual reading goals. They also agreed that if a team member needs help reading through books, that they would be helpful classmates and trade books or make other changes when necessary.

Students are required to answer questions with the Title and Author only. Questions are all in the same format - “In which book…?” Each round of play will be inspired by a different game theme (some themes may include: Jeopardy / Kahoot/ Family Feud/ Relay/ and so on). Winning teams advance to the next round until one team is left. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams each round.
How can I help?
Please encourage your children to read at home, in the car, before bed, and while traveling! Ask them about their book list. Check in with them periodically and see how their group is doing!
